A beautiful property but a lot of quirks involved with staying here.
First of all, the location on several travel sites is incorrect and misleading. It shows the location as being between Velas and the airport. In fact, it's located on the opposite side of the airport from Velas. The property is unstaffed and it wasn't clear to a non-Portuguese speaker how to get the key and gain access. If our cab driver didn't know that the next-door neighbor had a key, we wouldn't have known what to do. There are three keys to the property, front door, back door, and room are all separate keys on a fixed key ring. Locks were difficult to operate and because of the multiple keys we wound up locked out on one occasion. If not for having my phone with us, we would have had no way to contact the remote staff. The ground level rooms, owing to stone construction are a bit damp smelling.
Beautiful property. Comfortable room. Excellent amenities both in the room and in the common areas. Breakfast was very good with lots of options. Air conditioning in the the room was a great plus. Bath facilities were brand new and very good. Good location but not as centrally located as we were led to believe it was from travel sites.

All in all Casa da Ermida is great!
The rooms could use better reading lamps. And the internet was very weak to nonexistent downstairs.
The inn is hard to find as google maps was way off. We finally got ahold of Carlos, the manager, and he met us on the main road and we followed him in our car to the inn. The place is very comfortable and very clean, and the kitchen has most dishes and utensils that you need to cook. However, you’ll need to buy your own spices, oils, etc. Outside BBQ and dining area was nice to use. The stairs going to the lower level of the house could use a rail as they are made of lava stone and are a bit steep. Views are pretty good of Pico and sometimes you can even see the top of Pico mountain! On our final morning Carlos took me back to Lages do Vimes to buy coffee and he spent time with us in Velas waiting for the ferry. He is a great impromptu tour guide! He know quite a few of the islanders!
